After Joe Root since 2021, Ollie Pope becomes only the second England batter to score a century

Ollie Pope redeemed himself with a stunning century in the IND vs. ENG test. After managing just one run in the first inning, he finally proved his worth when England needed him the most. Interestingly, Ollie Pope became only the second English batter to score a ton in India since Joe Root in 2021.
Interestingly, this is Ollie Pope’s maiden Test century against India. A gritty innings paved the way for the 26-year-old to slam his fifth Test century in international cricket.
England were in the backfoot from Day 1 of the Test. After the debacle in the first inning, India added on more misery as they set a lead of 190 runs. England fumbled while trailing, but it was Ollie Pope who managed to keep his cool and composure, keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Batting under pressure, Pope continued to attack the poor balls, hitting 10 boundaries in the process. However, his gritty innings saw him rotate the strike to build his confidence. Pope continued to form a strong partnership with keeper Ben Foakes to help the visitors take the lead in the 2nd inning.
Since 2016, Pope is now just the fourth English batter to slam a ton. Back in 2016, Keaton Jennings and Moeen Ali slammed tons. Joe Root then managed to reach the three-digit mark back in 2021.
