Devajit Saikia is set to assume the role of interim Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) until elections are held for the position. This vacancy arose after Jay Shah began his tenure as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Currently serving as the Joint Secretary, Saikia will lead the BCCI temporarily.
The BCCI is required to conduct elections for the Secretary position within 45 days following Shah’s departure, with an announcement expected soon. Internal discussions within the board have already taken place regarding potential candidates. The new Secretary will serve for nearly a year, as the terms of current office bearers conclude in September next year.
While Saikia is currently the frontrunner for the role, there may be other names considered during the election process. Meanwhile, Jay Shah is attending a Brisbane Olympic committee meeting, where he is expected to discuss cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics, a project he has been instrumental in advancing.
