After being named UP skipper Rinku Singh says, “Not thinking too much about KKR captaincy in IPL 2025”
Rinku Singh has emerged as a strong candidate to captain the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025 season. Having been with KKR since 2018, he was retained for a hefty ₹18 crore before the auction, underscoring his importance to the franchise. Recently, Rinku was appointed captain of Uttar Pradesh for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, which has further fueled speculation about his potential leadership role at KKR.
Despite the buzz surrounding his possible captaincy, Rinku remains focused on leading UP to their first VHT title since the 2015-16 season. He stated, “I am not thinking too much about the captaincy of KKR… I want my team to regain the trophy.” His previous experience includes leading Meerut Mavericks to victory in the UPT20 League earlier this year.
With ShreyasIyer’s departure from KKR, the team is seeking a new leader. While Rinku’s name is in the mix, VenkateshIyer and AjinkyaRahane are also considered strong candidates for the captaincy. As KKR prepares for IPL 2025, Rinku’s performance in domestic cricket will be crucial in determining whether he secures the captaincy for the franchise.
