Royal Challengers Bangalore Women are going to appoint Luke Williams as their new coach for the upcoming edition of the WPL. It is to be noted that Smriti Mandhana and Co. performed miserably in the opening edition of the Women’s Premier League, which has now prompted the management to make some changes. Williams is going to be replaced by Ben Sawyer as the head coach of the RCB Women, and he has made quite a name for himself by coaching several franchises around the world.
RCB had struggled in the inaugural WPL season as they finished fourth out of five teams and had won only two of their eight group-stage games. The franchise had spent a lot of money on bagging some star players, including Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, and Sophie Devine. However, Mandhana and Co. could not deliver consistency in the first edition.
RCB new coach Williams had a short first-class career between 2000 and 2005 for South Australia. Williams spent four seasons in charge of the Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League, as the Strikers performed reasonably well under his command. It is also to be noted that he was also the assistant coach of the Southern Brave this year, as the franchise went on to win their first ever Hundred title. He has also worked with the South Australian Scorpions in the Women's National Cricket League in Australia.
