On Thursday, the Kolkata Knight Riders named West Indies batsman Johnson Charles as the replacement for their player Litton Das for the remainder of the 2023 Indian Premier League season. According to an IPL statement, "Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday named Johnson Charles as a replacement for Litton Das for the remainder of that Indian Premier League in 2023.
"Charles, who is a wicketkeeper and batter, has represented West Indies in 41 T20Is, scoring 971 runs, and was a part of West Indies' 2012 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20-winning squads. Additionally, he has played 224 T20s and has over 5600 runs to his name."
He joined KKR at a base price of Rs. 50 lakh. He left the West Indies cricket team for six years before rejoining them in 2022 and participating in seven T20 international matches since then. In March, he scored his century in only 39 balls against South Africa. This will be the first time for him to be able to play in the IPL, as he has previously played in franchise leagues in the Caribbean, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
Earlier this month, Litton had to leave the night riders camp to attend to a family member's medical issue. Kolkata Knight Riders are currently placed in the eighth spot in the points table and will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.
