A T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan creates a ticket frenzy in New York

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean is creating a buzz like no other, with the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in New York sparking frenzy. While the official sale saw tickets starting at a modest $6 (INR 497), the resale market paints a different picture, with prices reaching exorbitant levels.

Matches like India vs. Pakistan and India vs. Canada have become gold dust, disappearing during the official sale and reappearing on resale platforms like StubHub and SeatGeek at astronomical prices.

These tickets are being offered for at least double their original cost, with some exceeding initial prices by a staggering margin.

For instance, VIP tickets for the India vs. Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup match on the official website cost $400 (INR 33 thousand) (excluding taxes). On resale platforms, however, similar seats are listed for a mind-blowing $40,000 (INR 33 lakhs), with platform fees pushing the total close to $50,000 (INR 41 lakhs), a price tag comparable to courtside NBA Finals tickets!

Even the “cheapest” resale ticket for the India vs. Pakistan match is far from affordable, currently hovering around $1,259 (INR 1.04 lakhs) on StubHub. On SeatGeek, the lowest price is slightly lower at $1,166 (INR 96k), but still significantly higher than the original price. These resale prices rival the cost of attending other major sporting events in the USA.

While the average World Series ticket last year cost around $1,100 (INR 91k) and the average Super Bowl 58 ticket reached $9,000 (INR 7.45 lakh), the India vs. Pakistan T20 World Cup match is surpassing these figures on the resale market.
