20-year-old Shafali Verma creates history by becoming the second Indian woman after Mithali Raj to score 200 in tests

The star of Indian women's cricket, Shafali Verma, smashed a double hundred against South Africa in the one-off Test in Chennai. The swashbuckling opener took 194 deliveries to get to the milestone. Apart from being the first Test in which she has scored a ton, Verma became the second Indian woman to score a double ton in women’s Test cricket after Mithali Raj. The stunning knock of Shafali was studded with 23 fours and 8 sixes.
Shafali and Smriti Mandhana unleashed a furious assault on the bowlers, dominating the opposition with some brilliant stroke play. The duo recorded the highest opening partnership in women’s Tests, putting together a 292-run stand.
Mandhana continued on her fine form with yet another hundred, this time in the red-ball format of the game. South Africa looked clueless as the Indian batters continued to pile up the misery on the bowlers, amassing a 400+ score in just Day 1 of the one-off Test. The innings of Verma came to an end for 205 runs, courtesy of a run-out.
